The POF's mission is to create a healthy and positive future for our children of today; the leaders of tomorrow.
The holidays are over; it’s time to get active again. This may be our warmest winter in a long time but it is still icy, windy and well…“winter” out there. What better way to get “out of your cave” than to lace up your skates and be a part of the first Hiberskate event. This event, for children of all ages and families, is being held at Canada Olympic Park. Come experience what the Athletic Ice Complex at C.O.P. has to offer, join in the fun games and activities, show us what you can do on your skates, and support the Pediatric Obesity Foundation in its fight to reduce and eliminate childhood obesity. The first 150 children registered for the event will receive the first annual Hiberskate t-shirt!!

Healthy Weights for Healthy Kids' (HWHK) study continues to recruit children between the ages of 8 - 16 with a BMI greater than the 85th percentile for their age. Children who meet these criteria are encouraged to contact Roberta Corbett at (403) 247-8946 to set up a pre-screening appointment. This study is funded by the POF.
Stampede Road Race 2011 was a huge success this year with over 1500 racers and close to 200 kids involved in the kid's races. The POF would like to thank the SRR society for its continued support of the POF and all of the volunteers, racers, kids, and families that made the event such a success and so much fun!! Save the date for next year - July 8, 2011.
Growing Future Runners campaign was launched in support of active healthy children. Show your support by buying a pair of green shoe laces. All proceeds go the Pediatric Obesity Foundation.
Peter the Marathoner. Dr. Peter Nieman is a very active local pediatrician who has been supporting the Pediatric Obesity Foundation for many years. One of his areas of expertise is working with overweight children. Dr. Nieman has run 75 marathons to date in his quest to complete 100 marathons and is now running to support the POF. Please help to support his cause by pledging your support to Peter in his upcoming marathons.
